Plane Dames videos are here! The disclaimer -- beginning this, our videos are taken on our digital cameras that also have video capability. That said, they will not look like like anything coming out of Universal Studios but we hope you will find them entertaining!
The Thursday evening, May 28th, arrival of the AV Web DC-3. Jim McFadden had called earlier in the day to say they thought they would come visit Friday morning but they decided to come on Thursday. Eva and I just happened to be at the museum working to get Plane Dames ready for Bartlesville so we were there for the beginning of the fun.
Back again on Friday, after some "fix-its" on their DC-3 and tours, Dan and Jeff did their first "Concert Under the Connie!"
Before we knew, it was time for the guys to depart.
The annual Memorial Day weekend Fly-in hosted by EAA 967 at the Amelia Earhart Airport in Atchison, Kansas happened yesterday, May 23rd. The fly-in has been plagued by years of bad flying weather ranging from really windy to severe thunderstorms. As you will see, this year was perfect! There are lots of photos in Kodachromes too.
Good buddies from the Airline History Museum, Larry Denning and Jim Burr head back to their wonderful hangar at Clay County. Plane Dames will be making a visit to their hangar this summer. They have lots of great airplanes, stories and a very interesting "bathroom." Stay tuned!
Our VAA 16 meeting had a delayed start because we all waited for the Wing's new addition, sponsored by Col. Ron Wright, to take-off. Ron was staying on the ground while Steve Zimmerman took the plane up.
Taxiing out . . .
The take-off
A brief look around the CAF Hangar.
Arriving at Kirksville for set up on Friday, September 12th.
An overview of the airshow layout on Saturday, September 13th. We're hanging out waiting to see if the show will happen today.
Hanging out on Sunday, waiting for the Airshow to begin.
After a successful set-up Friday, a beautiful evening at the Expo VIP reception, no rain in the forecast and being tired--we opted to leave our product in place on the table tops. The flaps were down on the tent so we were confident all would be well. We arrived early Saturday a.m. to find everything completely drenched and many items that had blown onto the ramp and were dirty. The next 3 videos chronicle what happened next and for the rest of the day!
It was a four hour stint in the laundromat, so it was still light when we finished there but that was the "easy" part. It was 11 p.m. when all the ironing, re-pricing, folding, packing and inventory was done. However, Between God, our high quality products (we don't actually sell t-shirts), Woolite for All Fabrics and Oxi-Clean Stain Treater for Laundry, all but a couple dozen of our products looked brand new when we were finished. The fellow Airline History Museum volunteers who saw everything Saturday morning were totally astounded when we came back on Sunday with (almost) everything looking brand new!
Here it is, Sunday morning and Plane Dames are there!
A look around the Airline History Museum area at the airshow.
This was a first for me (Gwyn), a jet powered port-a-potty! Local radio/tv personality announcer, Johnny Rowlands, did a running commentary that only added to how funny this was. Since port-a-pottys are such "fixtures" at fly-ins and airshows (we have multiple videos in our AirVenture Home Movies) this seemed like the perfect addition!
A Corsair and an F-18 run up for the Heritage Flight.
Sitting in the rear of the Connie, watching out the back hatch, I shot this video of the beginning of the Thunderbirds' performance.
